Firm History
On December 1, 1971, Theodore J. Collins and Eugene D. Buckley merged their separate law firm practices to create COLLINS & BUCKLEY. During the months prior to the merger, two significant events had prompted the creation of the new firm. Sid Abramson of the Collins & Abramson firm was appointed to the Ramsey County Bench and Michael Baglio, of the Baglio & Buckley firm, died unexpectedly of a heart attack. Ted and Gene were long-time friends having met while attending Cretin High School in St. Paul.
Ted Collins and Morley Friedman, with their three support staff, moved two blocks from their offices in the downtown St. Paul Degree of Honor Building to the First National Bank Building to join forces with Gene Buckley, Mike Sauntry and John Chapuran and their two support staff. Since that original move in 1971, the firm offices have been located in the First National Bank Building.
In 1979 the name COLLINS, BUCKLEY, SAUNTRY & HAUGH was adopted by the firm to reflect the partnership changes that had been taking place during the firm’s first eight years.
From the beginning, COLLINS, BUCKLEY, SAUNTRY & HAUGH has been a litigation-oriented firm, attempting to provide services in a wide variety of areas of law. Major areas of practice include civil litigation, criminal law, family law, insurance defense, personal injury, workers' compensation, products liability, real estate, estate planning, defamation, business law and labor law.
COLLINS, BUCKLEY, SAUNTRY & HAUGH and its individual attorneys are well-known in all of the trial arenas of the Federal and State Courts in Minnesota and have demonstrated legal skills in courtrooms in several other states over the past 30+ years. Many decisions by the Minnesota Court of Appeals or the Minnesota Supreme Court show our influence and advocacy in helping to establish new law or overturn old (bad) law. We have handled major catastrophic-type injury cases, both on the plaintiff's and defendant's sides, have participated in major and complex litigation involving the Dalkon Shield, asbestos products liability, defamation, and malpractice involving people in various professions.
Though we constantly concern ourselves with the "business" of the practice of law, our attorneys and staff have also actively sought to improve our system of justice and our professional organizations. COLLINS, BUCKLEY, SAUNTRY & HAUGH personnel have served in various capacities in local, Minnesota State and American Bar Associations, and strive to reinvest in our community by our participation in civic as well as social and religious organizations. We seek to "lead by example". We are proud of our accomplishments, our attorneys and our staff. We look forward to providing legal services to the businesses, organizations and governmental entities of our community and region for many years to come.
