Commercial Litigation Services
Since its founding in 1971, the law firm of Collins, Buckley, Sauntry & Haugh, P.L.L.P. has concentrated on the process of dispute resolution, whether by negotiation or trial. Because the firm has chosen to remain small in order to afford its clients personalized and efficient service, it has been able to adapt quickly to the needs of existing and new clients. We can grow as large as our clients need us to be through the use of outside services or the hiring of temporary personnel.
There is probably no small or medium sized law firm in the Midwest with a trial practice as broad-ranging as ours.
- • Our insurance defense and plaintiffs' personal injury practice provides us with a varied base and enormous trial experience.
- • Our experience on both sides of workers' compensation allows us to counsel our clients on those issues and represent them if a lawsuit becomes necessary.
- • Our lawyers who do family law cases are, as a result, experienced at the evaluation, analysis, and appraisals of complicated businesses.
- • Several of our lawyers are former prosecutors and represent persons and corporations in criminal proceedings. We have successfully represented businesses against allegations of bid rigging, and officers and employees of these business against accusations of white collar crime.
- • We have been retained by other lawyers, as well as doctors, psychologists, accountants, and other professionals to represent them in administrative and licensor proceedings.
- • We have represented private employers, as well as public and private employees, in cases involving allegations of discrimination, wrongful discharge and sexual harassment.
Despite our small size, we have diverse education, experience, and talents that make us particularly well suited to meet your changing business needs. Two of our lawyers are certified public accountants (CPA's) and three are certified as Civil Trial Specialists by the Civil Litigation Section of the Minnesota State Bar Association. Two of our lawyers are certified as Civil Trial Specialist by the National Board of Trial Advocacy. Certification as a Criminal Trial Specialist has been received by another of our attorneys. Another lawyer has an MBA in finance. Two members of Collins, Buckley, Sauntry & Haugh are former Presidents of the Ramsey County Bar Association and two are past Presidents of the Minnesota State Bar Association. Our firm continues to have a strong presence through our attorneys as elected bar leaders and on the executive and section committees of bar associations.
A partial list of nationally known clients we have represented over the years include; Honeywell, Inc., 3M Company, Norwest Bank, and Pittsburgh-Corning, Inc. We were chosen by Aetna Life and Casualty Company to represent their corporate interest in matters resulting from the handling for the Dalkon-Shield settlements.
In 1991, we were retained by the Minnesota Legislature to contest the attempted veto of several bills. Our firm has been hired by counties and other governmental entities to prosecute and evaluate difficult or sensitive problems. We represent three public employee labor organizations.
With this broad experience at our disposal, we have been successful in commercial disputes of all kinds. We have represented plaintiffs and defendants in civil cases of fraud and breach of contract. We have represented employers and employees in matters relating to restrictive employment covenants. We have represented partners and shareholders in business "divorces." We have represented creditors and debtors in disputes over accounts. In commercial cases, we make a prompt and reasonable attempt to negotiate a settlement. If that fails, we prepare the case for trial and then we try it.
